Staff Psychologist

My clinical training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy began at the Albert Ellis Institute and continued through my post-doctoral training at the Cognitive Therapy Institute of San Diego. I’m a graduate of Penn State University, Marywood University, and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. I completed my APA accredited internship at the University of San Diego and became a Psychologist for the Federal Bureau of Prisons at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in San Diego, CA in August 2003. I moved to the Federal Correctional Complex in Butner, North Carolina to be a Specialty Program Coordinator in 2007 and I have directed substance abuse and rehabilitation programs. I was the Associate Director of FCC Butner’s APA accredited doctoral internship program and an Advanced Care Level Psychologist. I provided comprehensive psychological services to the most severe mentally and behaviorally disordered inmates that required intensive psychological and psychiatric services and closer supervision. I am currently the Chief Psychologist at FCI Terminal Island. I manage a large Psychology Department to include two substance abuse programs, an APA accredited doctoral internship program, and a program for chronically mentally ill inmates.

I am licensed as a Psychologist in both North Carolina and California, and a Board Certified Specialist in Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology. My research interests include the assessment and treatment of anger, aggression, and violence. I am the author of The Angry Cognitions Scale-Prison Form. I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology and the Vice-Chair of the Forensic Issues and Externalizing Behaviors Special Interest Group of ABCT. I provide lectures and workshops on CBT with Children and Families, CBT with Older Adults, Anger Management, Diagnosis and Treatment of Personality Disorders, and Fundamentals of Clinical Supervision.
