Nicholas Barr, MSW

Staff Social Worker

Nicholas Barr received his BA in comparative religion at Columbia University, and studied mindfulness practice and Tibetan Buddhist philosophy at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics in Dharamsala, India. After returning from a Princeton in Asia fellowship in education and capacity building in Laos, he received his MSW at UCLA. He completed his internships at the West Los Angeles VA psychiatric inpatient unit and Harbor UCLA Medical Center’s Adult Outpatient Psychiatry clinic , and has been extensively trained in cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy for borderline personality disorder, and prolonged exposure for post – traumatic stress disorder. He provides evidence based treatments to clients at Harbor UCLA Medical Center, and serves as a co-instructor for the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health Advances in Cognitive Therapies course for clinicians. He is working towards his PhD in Social Welfare at USC. His research interests include the use of mindfulness based interventions in therapy and dissemination of evidence based practices in community mental health settings.
